Project: Cornflower tea and concealing chocolate

It’s a story about one girl, her attitude to life, time and space around.
Every photo have a different state, which in the end of the story create a new full picture.
It’s like a map, which help her not to forget, that every fear and every unperfect things is a little piece of herself.
And only when whe’ll understand and accept it, she’ll find her real way in the life.

This series is about the moment, it’s about what’s going on right now. About the uniqueness and value, the importance of each second. About the questions “Why?” and answers “because accidents are not accidental.”

Project: Russian youth

60 percent of Russian population resides in small towns, urban settlements and villages. The conditions are very different from those of the big cities — unemployment, lack of education, greater difficulties in social and communal area. All of that makes people to move into bigger cities.
While urbanization process is growing in Russia, most of the population is not involved. It’s especially hard for young people and the younger generation of the country.
Welfare aspirations not always lead to success. Children are full of dreams and illusions about their future. Then they get older, try to get an education and to find a proper job in more populated places. But few succeed, and as they themselves admit, the older they become, the less faith they have in themselves and their forces.

Project: Common place

After the 1917 Revolution a housing crisis began in St Petersburg. The Communist Party’s decision was to requisition large parts of the upper class people’s living space for new working class tenants. This new form of housing became known as “communal apartments” or “kommunalka” in Russian. Usually the people in a communal apartment had nothing in common except for the intimate spaces that they shared. Each family lived in one room, sharing a common kitchen, hallway, lavatory and bathroom, which became highly contested public spaces. The revolutionary goal was to suppress the bourgeoisie and nurture the Soviet “new man”. The “new man” was supposed to be trained to participate joyously in collective existence, and despise “personal” or “private property” but in fact such coexistence in overcrowded urban flats led to a very unusual form of Soviet life and culture, becoming a core experience for generations of Russians. In St Petersburg nowadays there are over 1 mln of people living in kommunalkas.

Project: Twenty years old

The university is almost behind now. All the obligations with military service are most probably worked out. There is enough time for careless life, but not enough responsibility to think about the future. So much time to go party and so much freedom to explore yourself. Some people remain at this age forever. For me it was the time to fully gain the experiences of tumultuous youth. The experiences upon which all my further life would stand. It’s the time when there is no problem buying alcohol and no one would grumble behind “he’s too you young to smoke” while you’re having an occasional cigarette. Guys get their bumps with bad habits and bad choices. But as you get older you get to know pretty well how much you can drink, how to safely get out of dangerous situations. You know whom you could beat up, how you can really love and how sincere you actually are. You understand the difference between a crush and a real love and can easily tell which one is happening to you. Finally, you realize how important it is not to lose those things that you have achieved. You are seeking to find the best in yourself and people around you and stick to it.
After you get through this time of stormy youth, you know who you are.

Project: Hackneyed Phrases

I moved to Saint-Petersburg 3 years ago to continue studying and in search of better living. In this city I’ve found close friends and people who shared my ideas. I’ve learnt a lot, and my world view has changed.
My attitude to the city has also been changing. First l found it splendid and smart as any other tourist did. But little by little I felt seized by disappointment and sadness because of the misery and despondency that I saw here and there. Finally I felt embarrassed and confused about the people who lived here and believed in there city election and special mission. I needed to find a way to see Saint-Petersburg through its showy appearances.

Project:  Colourless Days

I created this story while working in a sales department at a plant that produced soft drinks. I spent 8 hours 5 days a week at the office. My day began at 9 a.m. and ended at 6 p.m. Every day was the same.In this series I tried to depict colourless and absurd atmosphere inside the office, where people do things they doesn’t really care about or do nothing at all. All surroundings — furniture, office machines, things in working places, walls, even light, make the atmosphere more strange and depressing.

Theme: Time

Every moment of the time is unique. Only when you look back you can understand what it was exactly. A photographer can save something if he had time to realized, analyzed and took a picture. The main constituent of second season’s projects is a time. Time like a projection of the past, present and even future. We’ll see how the young generation defines themselves, everyday life, society, relationships, cities and country in whole. Can young people feel the present time? Is it interesting for them? What they think about around the world? This is another view on time. View from the side of today.
